The Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank provides temporary food relief to people who are struggling with hunger in Elliot Lake – over 25 per cent of whom are children. The organization’s goal is to provide its clients with a three-day supply of food, once per month. Since 2021, the organization has seen an increase in their client list year over year.
This is the third year of the Elliot Lake Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag campaign, raising over 13,000 pounds of food for local food banks to date. The upcoming Elliot Lake and Spanish food drive is part of Purolator’s first-ever National Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag campaign. From Sept. 16-30, Purolator employees are running community red bag food drives at numerous locations across the country. Over the past 20 years, Purolator Tackle Hunger has delivered more than 20 million pounds of food for Canadian food banks and has set a goal to raise over two million pounds in 2023.
If residents who received bags on doorsteps miss the pick-up deadline in Elliot Lake, donations can be dropped off at the Fire Hall on Hillside North. If the pick-up deadline in Spanish is missed, residents can drop off donations at the Royal Canadian Legion, at 5 Brennan Harbour Road.

Purolator Red Food Bag Drive
2nd Annual Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag Campaign October 22nd to support the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank Inc
On Saturday, October 22nd., Team Purolator and our Volunteer Team from Elliot Lake, collected the Red Bags that had been distributed the weekend before. The Teams collected a terrific amount of food products. Approximately 7,600 lbs., or over 3.8 tons of food products, with a value of approximately $18,240.00 Considering the financial stress that our residents are experiencing, this is an amazing effort of support for our food bank. We anticipate more red bags being dropped off, as there was a discrepancy in the time to put the bags out.
It was a bittersweet day. Unfortunately, the person who initiated this tremendous fundraiser, passed away in September. Mr. Bruce Panagapko, started this event by simply asking a Purolator Driver, if the Purolator Tackle Hunger Program ever donated to the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank. This simple question has started what we hope will become an annual event.
On behalf of the Board and our Clients, sincerest Thanks to our community for the kindness and generosity extended our organization. God Bless you.

Purolator Red bag program
On Saturday, December 11th, despite very inclement weather, The Purolator Team, supported by Local Volunteers, collected the Purolator Red Bags. The Team collected an amazing 6,000 pounds or 3 tonnes of food product. The cash value of this collection is approximately $12,000.00. As this was the first time that Purolator has hosted this in our community we are amazed at the generosity of our city. The event started because one of our resident’s, Bruce Panagapko, asked the Purolator driver, if they supported our local food bank. That simple ask resulted in a follow up in the Sudbury Office and then to the Head Office. The Food Bank was contacted and advised of the Red Bag program and how Purolator would like to conduct the program in Elliot Lake. The final step was an amazing response from our Community.
